RESUMO: O presente estudo propõe-se a analisar o processo de implantação, organização e funcionamento do Grupo Escolar Mathias Olympio na expansão do ensino primário de Teresina-PI (1928-1971). Para tanto, os objetivos específicos são: buscar compreender o contexto histórico do seu processo de implantação, entender a sua organização e o seu funcionamento, e investigar a sua cultura escolar. Em uma concepção temporal, delimita-se a partir do ano de 1928, período de fundação do Grupo Escolar Mathias Olympio e por representar um marco no processo de ampliação e expansão do modelo “grupo escolar”, até 1971, tendo em vista o advento da Lei
5692/1971, que modificou o modelo grupo escolar ao fundir o ensino primário com o primeiro ciclo do ensino secundário, transformando-o em primeiro grau. Para a realização da pesquisa foram utilizadas as seguintes fontes: escritas (mensagens de governo, correspondências, legislações educacionais), hemerográficas (jornais e revistas da época), imagéticas (fotografias da cidade, do prédio escolar) e orais (coleta de entrevistas). Para a análise desses documentos, o presente trabalho está fundamentado nos seguintes autores: da Nova História Cultural, Peter Burke (1992), Roger Chartier (1990); sobre o estudo das Instituições Escolares, Magalhães
(2004), Nosella e Buffa (2013), Werle (2004); sobre Memória, Maurice Halbwachs (1990), Pierre Nora (1993); para as percepções sobre os Grupos Escolares, Diana Vidal (2006), Faria Filho, (1998, 2006), Fátima Souza (1998, 2019, 2006); sobre a Cultura Escolar, Dominique Julia (2001), Marcus Bencostta (2007); da História Oral, Paul Thompson (1992), Bom Meihy (1998), Verena Alberti (2008); referente ao uso das Fotografias, Borris Kossoy (2012), Peter Burke (2004), e como produções de pesquisadores locais, Amparo Ferro (1996), Itamar Brito (1996), Lopes (2001-2006), Salânia Melo (2010) e Jane Sousa (2005). O antigo Grupo Escolar Mathias Olympio, tombado como patrimônio do Estado do Piauí, contribuiu para o desenvolvimento de uma educação popular, suas estruturas e espaços possibilitaram a democratização do ensino primário em Teresina. Portanto, ao passo em que conhecemos a sua história, preservamos também a sua memória. ABSTRACT: The present study aims to analyze the process of implementation, organization, and functioning of the Mathias Olympio School Group within the expansion of primary education in Teresina, Piauí (1928–1971). To this end, the specific objectives were: to understand the historical context of its implementation process, to examine its organization and functioning, and to investigate its school culture. From a temporal perspective, the study is delimited from the year 1928, the period in which the Mathias Olympio School Group was founded and which represents a milestone in the process of expansion of the “school group” model, to 1971, considering the enactment of Law No. 5,692/1971, which modified the school group model by merging primary education with the first cycle of secondary education, transforming it into first-level education. For the development of the research, the following sources were used: written sources (government messages,
correspondence, educational legislation), hemerographic sources (newspapers and
magazines from the period), iconographic sources (photographs of the city and the school building), and oral sources (interviews). For the analysis of these documents, the present study is grounded in the following authors: from New Cultural History, Peter Burke (1992) and Roger Chartier (1990); on the study of School Institutions, Magalhães (2004), Nosella and Buffa (2013), and Werle (2004); on Memory, Maurice Halbwachs (1990) and Pierre Nora (1993); regarding perceptions of School Groups, Diana Vidal (2006), Faria Filho (1998, 2006), and Fátima Souza (1998, 2006, 2019); on School Culture, Dominique Julia (2001) and Marcus Bencostta (2007); on Oral History, Paul Thompson (1992), Bom Meihy (1998), and Verena Alberti (2008); concerning the use of Photographs, Boris Kossoy (2012) and Peter Burke (2004); as well as works by local researchers, Amparo Ferro (1996), Itamar Brito (1996), Lopes (2001–2006), Salânia Melo (2010), and Jane Sousa (2005).The former Mathias Olympio School Group, listed as a heritage site of the State of Piauí, contributed to the development of popular education. Its structures and spaces enabled the democratization of primary education in Teresina. Therefore, as we come to know its history, we also preserve its memory. |
