ABSTRACT: Despite the economic importance of sour passion fruit in Brazil, the scarcity of information on agronomic development and fruit quality of different cultivars in the Mid-North region of Piauí, which is characterized by a semi-arid tropical climate with well-defined seasonal variations in precipitation and high average temperatures throughout the year, there is a growth in the interest of producers in the diversification of this fruit tree. In this context, the objective of this study was to evaluate the vegetative performance and physicochemical characteristics of the fruits of four yellow passion fruit cultivars in the Mid-North region of Piauí. The experiment was conducted in the experimental area of the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI), in Teresina-PI, between May 2024 and May 2025, in a randomized block design, with four cultivars (FB 200, FB 300, BRS Sol do Cerrado and UNEMAT Conquista), four blocks and nine plots, totaling 144 plants, conducted in a simple espalier. Vegetative evaluations, carried out up to 180 days after transplanting, included plant height, stem diameter and length of secondary and tertiary branches. In the postharvest phase, physical and chemical characteristics were analyzed, such as fruit mass, pulp and seed mass, pulp yield, fruit length and diameter, peel thickness, total soluble solids, pH and vitamin C content. In the results, the FB 300 cultivar showed greater vegetative vigor, standing out in height and stem diameter up to 180 days, FB 200 had lower initial growth, but approached the others at the end of the cycle, while BRS Sol do Cerrado showed consistent development and UNEMAT Conquista showed gradual growth. Among the physical characteristics of the fruits, significant differences were observed, the cultivar UNEMAT Conquista presented the highest pulp yield, with 37.38%, followed by FB 200 presented 26.08%, FB 300 with 19.04% and BRS Sol do Cerrado, with 13.09%. The highest fruit mass was observed at UNEMAT Conquista, being 185.90 g. The quality variables were significantly influenced by the treatments, especially total soluble solids, pulp yield, pH and vitamin C, where FB 300 presented the highest TSS, expressing 15.85 ºBrix, the highest pH, being 2.95 and vitamin C content, being 33.27 mg/100 g, occurred at UNEMAT Conquista. The UNEMAT Conquista cultivar stands out, which showed higher pulp yield, higher fruit and pulp masses, higher pH and higher vitamin C content, resulting in larger fruits, less acids and good nutritional quality. |
