ABSTRACT: Cashew cultivation is essential for the development of Brazil. Through grafting, plants can be improved and made more resistant to fungal diseases. It is necessary to know the reaction of plants to these diseases and take measures to control and prevent them, in order to guarantee healthy, high-quality production. Thus, the objective of experiment I was to use 26 different cashew progenies (Anacardium humile A St. -Hil) plus 01 control treatment (clone CCP 76) as rootstocks for the clone CCP 76 (Anacardium occidentale L.), and in experiment II was to evaluate the reaction of commercial and experimental cashew clones under natural infestation of powdery mildew (Erysiphe spp.), black mold (Pilgeriella anacardii) and anthracnose (Colletotrichum spp.) in the southwest of Piauí. Both experiments were conducted in block plots, using DBC as a design. In experiment I, the setting 60 days after planting (DAP), height and diameter of the stem at 120 DAP, the percentage of setting and the number of days in which the graft survived 60 days after grafting were evaluated. In experiment II, biweekly evaluations of the final severity and the area under the disease progress curve (AACPD) were carried out for the three diseases. The results of experiment I showed that none of the cashew progenies were compatible with the CCP 76 clone. The possible causes of this incompatibility could be, among other factors, physiological or anatomical disparities. The results of experiment II showed that clones BRS 189 and CCP 076 were the most affected by powdery mildew, while clones SLC 12-20, PRO 145/7, CAPI 24, AC 276-1, BRS 226, PRO 805/4 and PRO 145/2 were considered more resistant. For black mold, clones BRS 265, CCP 076, HB 116/4, PRO 145/7, AC 276-1 and BRS 189 showed greater severity, while clones CAPI 17, BRS 226, CAPI 21, PRO 145/ 2, CAPI 24, PRO 805/4, SLC 12-20, PRO 555/1, EMBRAPA 51 and PRO 553/2 showed moderate resistance. As for anthracnose, clones BRS 265, HB 116/4, AC 276-1 and CAPI 17 were the most susceptible, while clones BRS 226, SLC 12-20, EMBRAPA 51, PRO 553/2, PRO 805/4 , CCP 076, CAPI 24, CAPI 21, PRO 145/2, BRS 189 and PRO 555/1 showed lower susceptibility. Therefore, more studies are necessary to expand the understanding of the genetic compatibility between the two species and to improve the setting time, as well as some cashew clones are more susceptible to the diseases evaluated, while others have moderate resistance or greater resistance. Clones BRS 189 and CCP 076 were the most susceptible, while clones SLC 12-20, PRO 145/7, CAPI 24, AC 276-1, BRS 226, PRO 805/4 and PRO 145/2 were the most resistant. pt_BR
