UM MESTRE DE BANDAS ENTRE ESCOLAS E QUARTÉIS DO PIAUÍ: TRAJETÓRIA DO PROFESSOR LUIZ SANTOS (1944 – 1994)

Abstract

RESUMO: Esta dissertação de mestrado aborda a trajetória do educador musical maestro Luiz Santos no estado do Piauí, destacando seu papel como militar e professor de música. Por meio de uma abordagem histórica, o estudo explora suas práticas educativas e o repertório empregado nas escolas e bandas em que atuou. A fundamentação teórica é embasada nos princípios da nova História cultural, com referências a pensadores como Le Goff (1990; 2003), Burke (1992), Halbwachs (1990), Catroga (2001) e Chartier (1990). A pesquisa se apoia em diversas fontes, incluindo a obra "Memória Piauiense", uma série que tem um número dedicado à memória do maestro. Além disso, são utilizadas outras fontes escritas e iconográficas encontradas em acervos públicos e pessoais. A dissertação incorpora entrevistas de professores contemporâneos, militares e ex-alunos do maestro. O recorte temporal da pesquisa abrange o período desde a formação do maestro como professor nos anos 1940 até sua saída da banda de José de Freitas nos anos1990. No entanto, a análise da trajetória do pesquisado incorpora recuos e avanços temporais, para proporcionar uma compreensão mais profunda do contexto histórico em que ele atuou. Os resultados da pesquisa oferecem uma visão abrangente da ação do maestro Luiz Santos para a educação musical no estado do Piauí, destacando sua atuação na corporação militar, seu papel como educador e a diversidade de suas práticas e repertório. This master's dissertation addresses the trajectory of the musical educator Maestro Luiz Santos in the state of Piauí, highlighting his roles as a military figure and music teacher. Through a historical approach, the study explores his educational practices and the repertoire used in the schools and bands where he worked. The theoretical framework is grounded in the principles of the New Cultural History, referencing thinkers such as Le Goff (1998; 2003), Burke (1997), Halbwachs (1990), Catroga (2001), and Chartier (1990). The research draws on various sources, including the work "Memória Piauiense," a series that includes a volume dedicated to the maestro's memory. Additionally, written and iconographic sources from public and personal collections are utilized. The dissertation incorporates testimonies from contemporary teachers, military personnel, and former students of the maestro. The research timeline spans from the maestro's formation as a teacher in the 1940s to his departure from the band of José de Freitas in the 1990s. However, the analysis of the subject's trajectory includes temporal regressions and advances to provide a deeper understanding of the historical context in which he operated. The research findings offer a comprehensive view of Maestro Luiz Santos's contribution to musical education in the state of Piauí, highlighting his influence in the military corps, his role as an educator, and the diversity of his practices and repertoires over the decades.
