ABSTRACT: This research focuses on the theme of fear in school, delimited as follows: Fear and its influence on the way young people inhabit public high schools in Teresina. The general objective is to investigate the fears that affect the bodies of young people in their way of inhabiting public high schools, and the specific objectives are: to identify the fears of young people in/public schools; to understand the influence of fear on the way young people inhabit the school territory; and to perceive the modes of resistance these young people use to overcome fear. Theoretically and methodologically grounded in Sociopoetics, the study involved a research group of six young people who, through the creation of masks, gave form to fear, which was metaphorically called the "Visitor." The research presents as results "confects" (concepts + affects) to map fears in school across three dimensions: 1- Dimension of the Body, a political, social, and emotional territory, the confects are: Visitor-bodies-crowd-of-strangers - fear caused by an excess of people, invasion, disturbance, lack of control; Visitor-bodies-greater community regarding the issue of harassment at school, a feeling of invasion, crossing boundaries, touching, described by the metaphor of the "objectifying, animalistic, and red" gaze. 2- Dimension of the relationship with the other and Identity, who we are is shaped by what others see, say, and how they treat us. The confects: Visitor-Shadow-Judgment – the sensation of being watched by many eyes, which makes the young person feel they are falling apart, degrading in the face of criticism, especially when hearing they will never be anyone; Visitor-Teacher-Pharisee-fire-at-school – the metaphor of duplicity; the teacher is the fire that burns, through lack of respect causing trauma, but who is also life; Visitor-unknown-friend multiple-facets – the friend who takes on "several faces" in the young person's mind, causing uncertainty about who is an ally; Visitor-Confused-two-facets – social adaptability highlights that students fake happiness to protect themselves, creating an "extreme adaptability" that disconnects them from what they truly feel. 3- Temporal Dimension, the visitor linked to time, where for students, time at school is not a clock, it is a judge that accelerates and paralyzes, present in the following confects: Visitor-Shadow-time – time flowing outside, but fear paralyzes when it whispers that we are not good enough; time "laughs and sabotages" the chances of moving forward, leaving the young person stuck while watching life go by outside; Visitor-Tick-tock-at-school – the sound of the clock that becomes a scream when time takes possession of the youth and ends in the despair of "Hurry! You'll miss the bus!"; Visitor Pharisee-feelings – a chromatic metaphor, where yellow, which is happiness, is invaded by the blue/green of sadness, and the red of threat, an avalanche of feelings that breaks the peace and spreads fear. The influence of fear on coexistence at school is the Dimension of Affective Fluctuations, which brings the confect Moments-intensity – waves of feelings that run through the youth, causing ruptures, bringing sadness, fear, frustration. The mode of resistance to overcome fear comes in the Dimension of Practices of resistance and re-existence, with the confect: Spaces-holes-in-the-Visitor – tactics to see through fear, using narrow and pointed holes to subvert it. Resistance occurs in the encounter with allies, such as family, friends, and fear itself as a tool, allowing young people to develop knowledge to re-exist and inhabit the school. |
