SCALPER MAJOR: a computational solution for automated trading in high-volatility environments
CORDEIRO, José Jeovane Reges
ABSTRACT: This work addresses the complexity and challenges of manual trading in the Forex market, a high-volatility environment where decisions are often compromised by emotional biases and the human limitation in processing information and executing orders promptly. To overcome these difficulties, Scalper Major, an automated trading system (Expert Advisor), was developed. The solution is based on a modular architecture composed of a signal processor, a risk manager, and a money manager. These components apply technical criteria, specialized heuristics, and strict management rules to operate with minimal human intervention. The validation of Scalper Major was conducted in two distinct scenarios. In the simulated environment, using historical data from January 2016 to December 2023 with an initial capital of $20,000.00, the system obtained a net profit of $751,533.23, with an overall win rate of 82.54% across 11,571 executed trades. In the live environment, operating from June 2024 to September 2025, the system started with a capital of $20,000.00 and generated a net profit of $19,673.82, achieving a win rate of 78.58% in 1,886 trades. The results from both scenarios demonstrate the robustness and effectiveness of the proposed solution, which proved to be profitable and resilient even in the face of events of significant market instability.

EXPLORAÇÃO DE MODELOS HÍBRIDOS COM ATENÇÃO PARA CLASSIFICAÇÃO DE CERATITE INFECCIOSA EM IMAGENS DE MICROSCOPIA CONFOCAL IN VIVO
RAMOS, Isaac Silva Santos
ABSTRACT: Infectious keratitis (IK) is an inflammation of the cornea caused by pathogenic agents such as fungi and protozoa of the genus Acanthamoeba, and it may progress to blindness when not diagnosed early. Although microbiological culture is an accurate diagnostic method, its invasive nature and turnaround time limit routine clinical use. In this context, in vivo confocal microscopy (IVCM) emerges as a non-invasive, high-resolution alternative; however, its interpretation requires specialized expertise. This study investigates deep learning models for automatic classification of IVCM images into four categories: fungal keratitis (FK), Acanthamoeba keratitis (AK), non-specified keratitis (NSK), and normal cornea. Using the public IVCM-Keratitis dataset, we evaluated four individual convolutional architectures (VGG16, MobileNetV3, DenseNet161, and ResNet101) and four hybrid approaches based on concatenating feature vectors extracted by two backbone networks. The most comprehensive variants incorporate a self-attention (SA) block after concatenation, enabling adaptive weighting of the relative importance of features prior to classification by an MLP. The results indicate that Approach IV (DenseNet161 + ResNet101 with SA) achieved the best balance between detection performance and misclassification errors, with mean precision of 96.22%, sensitivity of 96.01%, and F1-score of 96.03% (mean accuracy of 96.01%). Finally, Grad-CAM was employed to qualitatively interpret the most relevant regions driving the predictions, revealing complementary attention patterns between the backbone networks. Overall, the findings suggest that SA-enabled hybrid models can support computer-aided diagnosis in settings with limited specialist availability, assisting clinical decision-making and reducing avoidable vision loss.

ABSTRACT: Gastric cancer (GC) remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related death in Brazil and worldwide, with high incidence and mortality rates, especially in developing countries. Modern oncology has evolved toward stratifying patients into distinct groups based on the genotypic and phenotypic characteristics of tumors, as well as on their respective clinical outcomes. In this context, the study of the tumor microenvironment (TME) is essential for defining individualized and effective therapeutic strategies. Thus, the automated classification of TME components using deep learning (DL) models emerges as a promising alternative. Despite advances in digital pathology, the automatic classification of different TME tissue components in hematoxylin and eosin (H&E)stained slides remains underexplored in GC. To address this gap, this work proposes a multiclass classification method based on a two-level hierarchical ensemble composed of DL models. Twelve ImageNet-pretrained architectures (EfficientNet, ViT, MobileNet, Xception, VGG, ResNet, DenseNet, AlexNet, among others) were evaluated, exploring transfer learning, embedding extraction and concatenation, hierarchical arrangements of binary classifiers, variation in the number of neurons in fully connected layers, and on-the-fly data augmentation techniques. The experiments were conducted on the HMU-GC-HE-30K dataset, which comprises 31,096 patches balanced across eight tissue classes, using stratified crossvalidation (k = 8), with 20% of the images held out for external testing. Based on the best-performing models, we built a two-level hierarchical ensemble: homogeneous local committees and, subsequently, a global committee across distinct architectures using the predictions of the local committees. The best results obtained on the test sets indicated that the highest-performing committee achieved an accuracy of 81.2%, an AUC of 98.1%, and an F1-score of 81.2%, outperforming the literature baseline for this dataset by more than ten percentage points and demonstrating the superiority of the hierarchical ensemble over individual classifiers. This ensemble used as its aggregation strategy a class-wise F1-scoreweighted average of the member classifiers predictions. These findings show that the structured combination of diverse architectures within a hierarchical ensemble reduces variance across runs and increases discriminative capacity in complex multiclass scenarios, contributing to the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI)assisted digital pathology.

layer Perceptron - MLP), Rede Neural Convolucional (Convolutional Neural Network –

CNN), Memória de Longo e Curto Prazo (Long Short-Term Memory - LSTM) e híbridas.
ABSTRACT: Inequalities in educational performance among Brazilian municipalities remain wide and
persistent, as evidenced by variations in the Basic Education Development Index (IDEB)
across different stages of basic education. Despite the increasing availability of information
on education systems, there are still limitations in the integrated use of these inputs to
predict municipal performance and support strategic decisions. This gap is particularly
relevant in states like Piauí, where municipalities exhibit heterogeneous performance, with
some registering consistent progress and others maintaining results below the state average.
In this context, the present work aims to apply and evaluate predictive models based on
machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) to predict the educational performance of
municipalities in Piauí, represented by the IDEB (Basic Education Development Index), in
the three stages of basic education (early years, later years, and high school), integrating
educational, socioeconomic, and financial variables. To this end, three databases were
constructed, covering the period from 2013 to 2023, considering odd-numbered years. Ten
classic supervised regression algorithms were tested and compared, including penalized
regressions, tree-based models, such as Random Forest (RF) and Extreme Gradient
Boosting (XGBoost), and instance-based methods, in addition to seven deep Artificial
Neural Network (ANN) architectures, such as Multilayer Perceptron (MLP), Convolutional
Neural Network (CNN), Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), and hybrid architectures.
The performance of the models was evaluated using error metrics and coefficient of
determination (R2), calculated on the training, test, and cross-validation sets with 5 folds.
The results indicated that the XGBoost model presented the best overall performance in
the three stages of basic education, with an R2 of 0.5455 in the early years, 0.5205 in the
later years, and 0.4488 in high school, according to cross-validation. It stood out for its
robustness in the early and later years and its relative stability in high school, a stage
notoriously more difficult to predict due to greater variability and dropout rates. The
analysis of the importance of the variables identified central determinants for the IDEB
(Basic Education Development Index). In the early and later years, the following stood
out: GDP per capita, the age-grade distortion rate, the percentage of teachers without a
higher education degree, variables from local agriculture, and transfers from the Criança
Feliz (Happy Child) program. In high school, variables related to school infrastructure,
management, and teacher effort became relevant. Based on the XGBoost model, a scenario
simulation system was developed, which allows testing, in a counterfactual way, the impact
of parametric changes in explanatory variables on the predicted values of the municipal

IDEB (Basic Education Development Index) for 2023. This module operates with a user-
friendly interface and export features, customized graphs and visualizations, representing

a concrete contribution to evidence-based educational planning. The results obtained
demonstrate that it is possible to anticipate, with a reasonable degree of accuracy, the
behavior of the IDEB at the municipal level. The developed simulation system consolidates
itself as a tool to support decision-making, allowing managers to visualize the hypothetical
effects of educational public policies. As future perspectives, the inclusion of new variables
and the replication of the methodology in other federative contexts is recommended.
