ABSTRACT: The guinea fowl (Numida meleagris) represents a promising alternative for diversifying tropical poultry farming, but scientific information on growth, nutrition, and performance is still lacking. This study comprehensively evaluated growth modeling, phenotypic differences between males and females, and the effect of diets with different protein balances on production performance, carcass yield, meat quality, and economic viability. A total of 235 birds were used from hatch to 120 days of age, with average initial weights of 32.28 g and final weights of 2141.32 g. The Brody, Von Bertalanffy, Logistic, Gompertz, and Richards models were tested, with the Gompertz mixed-structure model presenting the best fit, according to the Akaike and Bayesian information criteria. The curve indicated an inflection point near 45 days, with rapid
growth until 64 days, followed by a deceleration. Between 43 and 64 days, greater variability in weights was observed, which decreased after 78 days, suggesting growth stabilization. In the phenotypic evaluation between sexes, males had an asymptotic weight (Wm) of 2319 g, while females were on average 56 g lighter (p = 0.031). The growth rate (b) was 0.031 day-1 in males and 0.026 day-1 in females, with a significant difference (p = 0.019). The inflection point (t*) was estimated at 45 days in males, not differing statistically from females (p = 0.298). The analyses revealed sexual dimorphism, with males exhibiting greater growth potential, but females with greater individual variability. For nutritional evaluation, 160 17-day-old birds were used. The experimental diets were: (i) protein balancing while maintaining crude protein
requirement (BPPB) and (ii) protein balancing with reduced crude protein requirement
(BPLPB), both adjusted for lysine and essential digestible amino acids (methionine + cystine, threonine, and tryptophan). The diets were formulated based on corn, soybean, gluten meal, synthetic amino acids, and vitamin and mineral supplements. Performance results between 17 and 90 days showed that the BPLPB diets, despite containing lower crude protein, did not compromise weight gain, feed intake, or feed conversion compared to the BPPB diet. Carcass yield at 90 days was similar between treatments, with no detriment to meat quality (pH, color, tenderness, and cooking losses). From an economic point of view, the diet with reduced crude protein had lower formulation costs and higher financial return, demonstrating its feasibility for practical application. Taken together, the results confirm that: (i) the mixed Gompertz model is the most appropriate to describe the species' growth; (ii) there is sexual dimorphism, with a growth advantage for males; (iii) reducing crude protein in amino acid-balanced diets maintains productive performance and improves economic efficiency. Thus, the research contributes to
consolidating the guinea fowl as a sustainable and profitable alternative in tropical poultry farming, offering technical support for breeding programs, feed management strategies, and more efficient production practices.

DIAS, Elisabeth Viana
ABSTRACT:In vitro embryo production has become one of the main biotechnologies applied to cattle farming, enabling the acceleration of genetic improvement and enhancing herd productivity. In this context, the present article aimed to analyze the main factors that influence the efficiency of the technique, with emphasis on seasonality, donor age, animal breed, and uterine receptivity of recipients. It was found that oocyte quality and pregnancy success are determined by an integration of physiological, nutritional, environmental, and genetic aspects. In addition, factors such as heat stress, variability in laboratory protocols, and infrastructure limitations represent significant obstacles to the large-scale application of IVEP. On the other hand, future perspectives point to the integration with emerging technologies, such as molecular biomarkers, gene editing, and non-invasive methods of embryo assessment, which may increase the predictability and sustainability of the technique. In this scenario, IVEP reaffirms itself as a strategic tool for Brazilian cattle farming, contributing to zootechnical, economic, and environmental gains.

FERREIRA, Rayanne Amorim
No Cap.
nas bases: SCOPUS, Web of Science, Wiley Online Library e Science direct.
No Cap.
mistura total (SRMT) contendo pornunça (Manihot sp.).
As
ABSTRACT: The objective of this research was to evaluate the influence of silage type on the
tissue composition, physicochemical characteristics, and fatty acid profile of lamb
meat from animals finished in confinement. In Chapter I, an integrative review was
carried out, in which the searches for article selection were conducted in the
databases: SCOPUS, Web of Science, Wiley Online Library, and ScienceDirect.
The mnemonic PVO (population, variable of interest, outcome) research strategy
was used to define the guiding question of the study: “What are the main silages
used in the finishing of sheep?”. In Chapter II, an experiment was conducted with
32 crossbred male lambs, with an initial average weight of ±19.6 kg, finished in
confinement and fed with total mixed ration silage (TMRS) containing pornunça
(Manihot sp.). The animals were distributed in a randomized complete block design,
arranged in a 2 × 2 factorial scheme, with two feeding forms (FF; TMRS and TMR)
and two forage-to-concentrate ratios (F:C 40:60 and 50:50). Data were analyzed
using mixed models, with treatments and their interactions considered as fixed
effects, and block and experimental error as random effects. Means were compared
using Tukey’s adjusted test, and differences were considered significant when P ≤
0.05. The integrative review revealed that Brazil was the country with the highest
number of studies on the topic, and corn plant silage was the most used roughage
source in confined sheep feeding. Overall, the use of different silages in the diet
exerts a direct influence on lamb meat quality, tissue composition, physicochemical
characteristics, and lipid profile. Regarding Chapter II, the diets supplied in the form
of TMR resulted in higher leg weight (P = 0.02), regardless of the F:C ratio. The diet
with TMRS40:60 showed a higher proportion of bone (B) compared to TMR40:60.
The proportions of the other tissues (M = muscle; F = fat; and other tissues) were
not affected (P > 0.05) by the diets. The muscularity index, as well as the M:B and
M:F ratios, also showed no significant differences (P > 0.05). The diets did not
influence the proximate composition of the meat (P > 0.05). Higher values for L*
(lightness) and cooking losses (CL) were observed for the 50:50 ratio compared to
40:60. The other physical characteristics were not affected by the diets (P > 0.05).
Animals fed with TMRS, regardless of the F:C ratio, showed meat with higher
concentrations of C15:1 and C18:3 n-3 compared to those fed with TMR. The 40:60
F:C ratio resulted in meat with a higher concentration of C20:2. The other fatty acids
were not affected by the diets (P > 0.05). Thus, based on the results, it can be
concluded that pornunça can be safely used as a roughage source, either in the
TMRS or TMR form, with F:C ratios of 40:60 or 50:50, without compromising meat
quality.

A pectinase purificada

. A purificação da enzima

foi realizada por meio de planejamento (24

) utilizando o sistema aquoso bifásico, no
tóxicos frente a células normais e tumorais.
ABSTRACT: This study aimed to produce and characterize pectinases produced by Trichoderma spp.
using lemon peel as a substrate and to evaluate the effect of this enzyme in the diet of
broiler chickens on zootechnical performance and blood biochemical parameters.
Among the fungi studied, Trichoderma orientale UFPI 18 was selected for its superior
performance, achieving an activity of 1,20 U/mL and a specific activity of 83,75 U/mg.
Through a 23 design, the best production conditions were determined to be: 3,0 g of
lemon peel, 50% moisture, and incubation at 35°C for 24 hours of fermentation,
resulting in a pectinolytic activity of 1,45 U/mL and a specific activity of 4,82 U/mg.
The purified pectinase exhibited a temperature of 50°C, with increased pectinolytic
activity in the presence of Mg2+, Zn2+, Co2+
, and Na+
, and reduced activity under the

action of Ba+

. Enzyme purification was performed using a design (24

) utilizing an
aqueous biphasic system, in which the best conditions using a PEG concentration (1.500
g/mol) and a concentration of 17% and a sodium phosphate concentration of 18% and
pH 8,0 resulted in a partition coefficient (K=0,82), a recovery of 93,35%, and a
purification factor of 1,85 (salt phase). Kinetic parameters demonstrated that the crude
extract is more efficient in converting the substrate to product at low concentrations,
while the purified enzyme exhibits greater individual catalytic potential when the
substrate is at higher concentrations. Cytotoxicity assessment indicated an absence of
toxic effects against normal and tumor cells. Subsequently, the effect of the enzyme was
evaluated in 80 slow-growing male broiler chickens of the Naked Neck strain, which
were distributed in a completely randomized design with two treatments (control +
50U/g of extract). The results showed no significant effect on zootechnical performance
nor relevant changes in most biochemical parameters, indicating the metabolic safety of
the supplementation under the tested conditions. It is concluded that the production of
pectinases by filamentous fungi of the genus Trichoderma, combined with the use of
purification methods, such as aqueous two-phase systems, constitutes an efficient and
economically viable biotechnological alternative, presenting high potential for industrial
application, especially in the development of enzymatic additives for broiler nutrition.
