Abstract:
ABSTRACT: In recent decades, spectroscopic techniques have gained prominence in agriculture, offering rapid analyses of the nutritional status of different crops, and above all, free of toxic
residues. Despite advances in crops such as soybeans, corn, and coffee, the application of this technique for nutritional diagnosis of passion fruit (Passiflora edulis Sims), especially the yellow variety (f. Flavicarpa), is still incipient. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the use of Vis-NIR-MIR spectroscopy to quantify the concentrations of the macronutrients calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), and sulfur (S), and the micronutrients copper (Cu), manganese (Mn), iron (Fe), and zinc (Zn) in yellow passion fruit leaves. Seventy-two plants of Passiflora edulis Sims f. Flavicarpa Deg. were cultivated. Cultivar: FB 200 yellow master. At the end of the growing season, when the plants were in advanced vegetative growth, the leaves were collected and classified into two groups: new leaves and old leaves, totaling 144 samples for analysis. For laboratory nutritional analyses, the samples underwent acid solution digestion (HNO3:HClO4 3:1 v/v), and the extracts were analyzed using a flame photometer, a Varian atomic absorption spectrometer, and a UV-Vis spectrophotometer to quantify nutrients. For spectroscopic analyses, a Fieldspec 3 spectroradiometer was used in the Vis-NIR band, and an apha sample composition sensor was used for analysis of the MIR spectral band. Readings at the Vis-NIR wavelength were performed in triplicate. Two preprocessing methods, Standard Normal Variate (SNV) and
Savitzky-Golay (SG), along with the combination of two models, Cubist, and Partial Least
Squares Regression (PLSR), were tested to generate the best quantification model for the nutrients. Furthermore, two methods of percentage division of the data between calibration and validation were tested, being 80% (115 samples) for calibration and 20% (29 samples) for validation (80-20) and 70% (100 samples) for calibration and 30% (44 samples) for validation (70-30). The results indicated that the 70-30 data division presented the best overall performance for the elements Ca, Mg, and Zn. The Cubist model obtained the best results for most nutrients, together with the SNV preprocessing. In this study, the elements that stood out were Ca and Mg, obtaining the highest values of coefficient of determination (R2) 0.62 and 0.59 and the highest value of performance ratio for interquartile distance (RPIQ) = 2.31 and 2.19, respectively.
