Abstract:
ABSTRACT: This work analyzes how the representations about the attack of the French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo are built in the national circulation cartoon speeches. The attack, which took place on January 7th, 2015, when two armed men broke into the weekly newspaper headquarters, killing 12 people, generated a lot of discussions guided by divergent ideological positions about the limits of the Freedom of Expression and the respect for the Islamic religion. It is considered that the produced charges about the attack not only captures points of tensions and ideological clashes amid this complex context in which the attack and the issues were raised, but also contribute to strengthen hegemonic positions in clashes in discursive level. Hence, it was adopted as methodological theoretical support the proposal of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) which seeks to provide a scientific basis for a critical reflection of social life in political and moral terms, this is, in terms of social justice and power (FAIRCLOUGH, 2003), in order to identify how ideological effects may be serving to reinforce / legitimize certain positions. Authors like Chouliaraki and Fairclough (1999, 2001, 2003), Kress and Van Leeuwen (2006), Resende and Ramalho (2006, 2011), Magalhães (2003), Thompson (1995), Vilches (1984, 1997), among others, show up fundamental in the composition of our research. Finally, it is informed that the cartoon analyzed omit themselves, mostly, through deep further discussions that underlie the theme, although they bear a critical potential for this. Their positions are in large part in agreement with the discourse of freedom of expression, strengthened and are defended by politicians and media groups, in favor of maintaining / perpetuating the dominant structure.
