O PROBLEMA DO GÊNERO SOB OS PADRÕES DA HETERONORMATIVIDADE EM O QUARTO DE GIOVANNI (2018), DE JAMES BALDWIN

Abstract

RESUMO: Esta dissertação, situada no campo da crítica literária, visa analisar, por meio dos estudos de gênero, sexualidade, heteronormatividade, estigma e espaço literário, a obra O quarto de Giovanni (2018), de James Baldwin. A produção de conhecimento no que se refere ao gênero vem ganhando espaços nos mais variados campos do saber. É notório o avanço em relação às expectativas sociais relacionadas a homens e mulheres, porém, modelos de masculinidades pautados na violência ainda são presentes nos contextos sociais, tal fato atua para a construção e manutenção de um padrão heteronormativo e contribui para a estigmatização de indivíduos. Esta pesquisa é norteada pela seguinte questão: De que forma o padrão heteronormativo se impõe e interfere na relação entre as personagens David e Giovanni? Assim, a presente dissertação objetiva analisar de que forma os padrões heteronormativos afetam as personagens David e Giovanni, da obra O quarto de Giovanni (2018), de James Baldwin. Metodologicamente, a pesquisa se pauta na análise bibliográfica por meio de autores, como: Judith Butler (2010), Connel e Pearse (2015), Foucault (2017), Goffman (1988), Sedgwick (2007), Bachelard (2008), entre outros. Espera-se que a pesquisa contribua para as discussões dentro do campo da literatura sobre temas que vêm se tornando cada vez mais pertinentes.

ABSTRACT: This dissertation, placed on the literary criticism field, aims to analyze, through studies of gender, sexuality, heteronormativity, stigma and literary space, the book Giovanni's Room (2018) by James Baldwin. The profuction of knowledge in relation to the gender has gained ground in various areas of knowledge. It's noticeable the progress in relation to social expectations related to men and women, however, masculinity role models guided on violence are still present in social contexts, such fact play a role on the construction and maintenance of a heteronormative pattern and contributes to the stigmatization of the individual. This research is guided by the following issue: in what way the heteronormative pattern imposes itself and interfere on David and Giovanni's relationship? Thus, this disquisition aims to analyze the way that heteronormative patters affects David and Giovanni, characters from the book Giovanni's Room (2018) by James Baldwin. Methodologically, this research focuses in the bibliographical analysis through authors such as: Judith Butler (2010), Connel e Pearse (2015), Foucault (2017), Goffman (1988), Sedgwick (2007), Bachelard (2008), among others. Is expected that this research will contribute to discussions inside the literature field about topics that are becoming even more relevant.
