A ESCOLA DO ESTABELECIMENTO RURAL DE SÃO PEDRO DE ALCÂNTARA, NO PIAUÍ: implantação e funcionamento de um projeto educacional para negros libertos pela Lei do Ventre Livre (1871 - 1888)

Abstract

RESUMO: Este estudo aborda o funcionamento da escola do Estabelecimento Rural de São Pedro Alcântara, com ênfase na pesquisa sobre a missão desta instituição educacional de proporcionar o ensino das primeiras letras, educação moral, religiosa e profissional, para as crianças negras nascidas nas Fazendas Nacionais de criação de gado na Província do Piauí, depois da promulgação da Lei do Ventre Livre, Nº 2.040, de 28 de setembro de 1871, que prometia livrar da escravidão todas as crianças nascidas a partir dessa data. O objetivo geral é analisar a proposta desta escola e as condições para o seu funcionamento. Com esta orientação, foi formulada metodologicamente uma pesquisa de abordagem qualitativa do tipo documental e exploratória, com estratégia de investigação bibliográfica e histórica por meio das análises de documentos e matérias de jornais da época. Neste sentido, o espaço temporal definido para o estudo está entre os anos de 1871 a 1888. As fontes de pesquisas foram: Arquivo Público do Estado do Piauí, Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional, hemeroteca da Biblioteca Nacional. Essa investigação está inserida na epistemologia da nova história que postula uma ampliação dos enfoques, quando busca trazer para a historiografia a trajetória da vida dos negros escravizados, uma parcela da população que sofreu e ainda sofre a invisibilização da sua cultura e história. Demonstra a importância de trazer à luz fatos significativos que foram ignorados pelo filtro da história tradicional. Na elaboração apresenta a dimensão da história cultural, um direcionamento que amplia as perspectivas de descobertas, com o auxílio de outras áreas de conhecimento. Assim, faz uma leitura da história local e regional através dos documentos pesquisados, compreendidos no domínio da história dos marginalizados. O Estabelecimento Rural foi criado a partir do Decreto Imperial Nº 5. 392, de 10 de setembro de 1873. A escola do Estabelecimento Rural funcionou como internato para crianças negras, na perspectiva de instruir e desenvolver uma atividade profissional. Neste período, o Brasil já começava a discutir a substituição do trabalho escravo para a mão de obra remunerada. Este estudo é relevante para a construção da historiografia da educação dos negros no Estado do Piauí.

ABSTRACT: This study addresses the functioning of the school of the Rural Establishment of São Pedro Alcântara, with emphasis on research on the mission of this educational institution to provide the teaching of the first letters, moral, religious and professional education, for black children born in the National Farms of creation of cattle in the Province of Piauí, after the enactment of the Free Belly Law, No. 2,040, of September 28, 1871, which promised to free all children born from that date from slavery. The general objective is to analyze the proposal of this school and the conditions for its functioning. With this guidance, a qualitative research of documental and exploratory approach was formulated methodologically, with a bibliographic and historical investigation strategy through the analysis of documents and newspaper articles of the time. In this sense, the timeframe defined for the study is between the years 1871 to 1888. The sources of research were: Public Archive of the State of Piauí, National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute, newspaper library of the National Library. This investigation is inserted in the epistemology of the new history that postulates an expansion of the approaches, when it seeks to bring to the historiography the life trajectory of the enslaved blacks, a part of the population that suffered and still suffers from the invisibility of their culture and history. It demonstrates the importance of bringing to light significant facts that have been ignored by the filter of traditional history. In the elaboration it presents the dimension of cultural history, a direction that expands the perspectives of discoveries, with the help of other areas of knowledge. Thus, it makes a reading of the local and regional history through the researched documents, understood in the domain of the history of the marginalized. The Rural Establishment was created from Imperial Decree No. 5,392, of September 10, 1873. The Rural Establishment school functioned as a boarding school for black children, in order to instruct and develop a professional activity. In this period, Brazil was already beginning to discuss the substitution of slave labor for paid labor. This study is relevant to the construction of the historiography of black education in the State of Piauí.
