DESVELANDO OS CAMINHOS DO SANTANA: história e memória de um processo de rurbanização em Teresina – PI

Abstract

RESUMO: Este trabalho teve por objetivo compreender a história e a memória do processo de rurbanização do bairro Santana em Teresina – PI, no período compreendido entre as décadas de 1970 e 2000. O recorte temporal foi assim delimitado, por que na década de 1970 o bairro passa por uma (re)organização espacial por conta da mudança de prédio da Usina Santana, indústria de açúcar presente na região desde o início do século XX, e da criação do loteamento Jardim Europa que impulsionou um processo de migração interno da população dentro dos limites espaciais da região; estendendo-se até os anos 2000, pois durante esses anos alia-se ao processo de (re)organização espacial, uma série de melhoramentos urbanísticos, mudando significativamente os modos de viver no bairro, dicotomizado pelas relações entre o rural e o urbano. Para tanto, fizemos uma análise dos anos 70 e 80, período em que o bairro é enquadrado no perímetro rural da cidade, percebendo a relação entre a Usina Santana e a Cerâmica Santana como reforçadoras de um ideal de bairro rural, embora no período já possam ser percebidas algumas características de urbanidade. Em seguida, analisou-se os anos 90 e 2000 compreendendo como se deu a ação do poder público, predominantemente municipal, na região como impulsionador de sua urbanização, possibilitando a emergência de um estado de rurbanização. Por fim, discutiu-se a relação entre a memória da população e a Usina Santana, percebendo como esta empresa influiu decisivamente na constituição de uma memória coletiva que extrapola as fronteiras espaciais do bairro. Metodologicamente, foi utilizada a análise documental a partir de fontes adquiridas junto ao Arquivo Público do Piauí (APPI), à Prefeitura Municipal de Teresina e à biblioteca do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE), como também utilizamos a metodologia da história oral, coletando entrevistas com moradores do bairro visando perceber como a Usina se faz presente na memória do bairro e como a população percebe os melhoramentos urbanísticos da região. Nossa análise se direcionou para o estudo do fenômeno da rurbanização no bairro Santana, compreendendo que este ainda está em andamento, estando a região permeada de características urbanas, mas também rurais; além disso, o estudo da memória permitiu-nos perceber como a Usina Santana se destaca como eixo norteador de uma memória que vai além dos limites locais, assim como o foi também para a própria formação e crescimento do bairro. ABSTRACT: This study aims to understand the history and memory of process of rurbanization of Santana Neighborhood in Teresina – PI, in the period between the 1970s and 2000s. The time frame was limited this way, because in the 1970s the neighborhood goes through a spatial (re)organization because of the change of building the Usina Santana, the sugar industry in this region since the early twentieth century, and the creation of Jardim Europa residential that propelled a process of internal migration to the region, extending to the year 2000, because during these years joins the process of spatial (re)organization, a series of urban improvements, significantly changing the ways of living in neighborhood, dichotomized by the relationships between rural and urban. To this end, we analyzed the 70s and 80s, during which the neighborhood is framed in a rural area of the city, perceiving the relationship between the Usina Santana and Cerâmica Santana as reinforcing the ideal of a rural neighborhood, although the period may be longer perceived some characteristics of urbanity. Next, we analyzed the 90s and 2000s comprising as it was the action of government, mostly local, in the region as a propelling of its urbanization, allowing the emergence of a state of rurbanization. Finally, we discussed the relationship between people‟s memory and Usina Santana, perceiving how this company decisively influenced in the formation of a collective memory that goes beyond the spatial boundaries of the neighborhood. Methodologically, the document analysis was implemented from sources acquired by the Arquivo Público do Piauí (APPI), the Teresina Municipality and the library of the Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE), but also used the methodology of oral history, collecting interviews with neighborhood residents in order to understand how the Usina is present in the history of the neighborhood and how the population perceives the progress of the region. Our analysis was directed to study the phenomenon of rurbanization in the Santana Neighborhood, perceiving that this is still in progress, with the region permeated with urban characteristics, but also rurals, in addition, the study of memory allowed us to understand how Usina Santana stands out as a guideline of a memory that goes beyond local boundaries, as was also for the formation and growth of the neighborhood.
