ESTUDO HISTORIOGRÁFICO DO TRATAMENTO DADO ÀS CATEGORIAS GÊNERO E NÚMERO DOS SUBSTANTIVOS SIMPLES NA GRAMÁTICA HOUAISS DA LÍNGUA PORTUGUESA

Abstract

RESUMO: Esta dissertação tem, como objetivo principal, investigar continuidades e descontinuidades em relação ao tratamento dado às categorias gênero e número dos substantivos simples na Gramática Houaiss da Língua Portuguesa (2008), (doravante GHLP), de autoria de José Carlos de Azeredo. Para tanto, fez-se necessária a análise de gramáticas que perfazem o horizonte retrospectivo (Auroux, 2008) de Azeredo, quais sejam, gramáticas brasileiras do século XX: Pereira, 1907; Said Ali, 1922; Almeida, 1943; Rocha Lima, 1957; Bechara, 1961; Melo, 1980; Cunha e Cintra, 1985, com ponto de chegada na GHLP, gramática escrita na primeira década do século XXI, estabelecendo-se, assim, as fontes primárias desta pesquisa, além da dissertação de mestrado e tese doutoral do autor. A análise foi conduzida com base nos pressupostos teórico-metodológicos da Historiografia Linguística, ancorando-se nos princípios propostos por Koerner (1996): contextualização e imanência. O princípio de contextualização foi contemplado a partir da descrição de alguns aspectos políticos, econômicos e sociais do Brasil no período de 1930 a 2008 para que se pudesse compreender o clima de opinião do autor, a fim de entender as ideias contidas na GHLP, porque se entende que a obra do autor não é um evento isolado, mas situa-se num momento histórico e é influenciado pelas reflexões que o antecederam. O princípio de imanência contemplou as descrições linguísticas a respeito do gênero e do número dos substantivos simples, catalogadas na GHLP, representando, em alguma medida, a linha de renovação da gramaticografia em tempo atual; e nas demais gramáticas do século XX, representando a tradição. Por comparação, as descrições linguísticas das categorias analisadas foram postas em linhas de continuidade e descontinuidade em relação a uma tradição já consolidada. Além disso, ao cerne da fundamentação teórica, a partir de um breve panorama na historiografia das ciências, integrou-se a noção de coletivo de pensamento, de Fleck (2010); modelo de história continuidade e descontinuidade, de Koerner (1989); História do Tempo Presente (Ferreira, 2000; Bastos; Hanna, 2012), em que lacunas entre o passado e o futuro são passíveis de compreensão em momento presente. Como resultados gerais, verificou-se que o autor apresenta linhas de continuidade em relação à tradição quando faz repetição de regras já conhecidas. Já em relação às linhas de descontinuidade, Azeredo, ao trazer uma nomenclatura própria e concisa, para a descrição do gênero dos substantivos, descontinua, pois, por meio de generalizações, consegue abarcar inúmeras regras que tradicionalmente são feitas de forma particularizadas. Além disso, o autor reconhece o caráter imanente do gênero como um item do léxico, não se limitando a aspectos sintáticos como os demais gramáticos. Sem hesitações, Azeredo, na GHLP, diferencia os mecanismos de descrição do gênero e do número em relação aos processos de flexão e de derivação. Em relação à categoria número, apesar da repetição de regras já conhecidas, Azeredo vai além da indicação de singularidade e pluralidade, ao apresentar nitidamente a oposição que existe nesses dois processos. Percebe-se, portanto, que a GHLP, no que tange ao tratamento das categorias gênero e número, pende pela via da renovação em relação aos tradicionais compêndios do século XX................ABSTRACT: The main objective of this research is to investigate continuities and discontinuities in relation to the treatment given to the categories genus and number of the simple nouns in the Grammar Houaiss of the Portuguese Language (2008), (hereafter GHLP), authored by José Carlos de Azeredo. In order to do so, it was necessary to analyze grammars that make up the retrospective horizon (Auroux, 2008) of Azeredo, that is, Brazilian grammars of the 20th century: Pereira, 1907; Said Ali, 1922; Almeida, 1943; Rocha Lima, 1957; Bechara, 1961; Melo, 1980; Cunha and Cintra, 1985, with a point of arrival in the GHLP, grammar that was written in the first decade of the 21st century, thus establishing the primary sources of this research, in addition to the master's thesis and doctoral thesis of Azeredo. The analysis was conducted on the theoretical-methodological assumptions of Linguistic Historiography, based on in the principles proposed by Koerner (1996): contextualization and immanence. The approach of Contextualization Principle was done from the description of some political, economic and social aspects of Brazil in the period from 1930 until 2008, in order to understand the ideas of the author of the ideas contained in the GHLP, because it is understood that the work is not an isolated event, but it is situated in a historical moment and it is influenced by the reflections that preceded it. The Immunity Principle considered as linguistic descriptions a respect of genre and number of simple nouns, all of them cataloged in the GHLP, representing, to some extent, a line of innovation of the gramaticografia in current time; And in the other grammars of the twentieth century, representing tradition. By comparison, the linguistic descriptions of the analyzed categories were put in lines of continuity and discontinuity in relation to an already consolidated tradition. In addition, by the theoretical foundation, from a brief overview in the historiography of the sciences, the notion of collective of thought, of Fleck (2010); Model of continuity and discontinuity history, by Koerner (1989); History of Present Time (Ferreira, 2000; Hanna, Bastos, 2012), in which gaps between the past and the future are capable of understanding in the present moment. As general results, it was verified that the author presents lines of continuity with respect to the tradition when he makes repetition of rules already known. Regarding the lines of discontinuity, Azeredo descontinue, by bringing a proper and concise nomenclature for the description of the genus of nouns, therefore, by means of generalizations, he embraces innumerable rules that are traditionally made in a particularized way. In addition, the author recognizes the character of the genre as an item of the lexicon, he is not limited to syntactic, like other grammarians. Without hesitation, in the GHLP, Azeredo does difference of the mechanisms of description of the gender and the number in relation to the processes of bending and derivation. Regarding the number category, there is the repetition of known rules, but Azeredo goes beyond the indication of singularity and plurality, when it presents particular semantic nuances in relation to this category. It can be seen, therefore, that the GHLP, in relation to the treatment of the categories gender and number, inclines on the path of renovation in comparision to the traditional compendia of the twentieth century.
