NAS TRILHAS DE PADRE DELFINO: as disputas de poder na cidade de Timon (1940-1960)

Abstract

RESUMO A presente investigação teve como objeto de estudo o panorama político e social que permitiu a atuação política de Padre Delfino na Cidade de Timon (MA) nas décadas de 1940 a 1960. O município de Timon, localizado no Maranhão, é vizinho da capital piauiense, Teresina, e possui a memória viva de um ilustre sacerdote católico atuante na cidade, conhecido como Padre Delfino. A literatura historiográfica da cidade o menciona como um pároco dinâmico e até mesmo uma dissertação biográfica aprofunda muitas de suas facetas. Porém, não explora com profundidade a sua atuação política entrelaçada à sua atividade religiosa. A pesquisa formulou a seguinte pergunta: qual cenário político e social que permitiu a atuação política de Padre Delfino na Cidade de Timon nas décadas de 1940 a 1960? Daí compreender as relações sociais e políticas que permitiram a atuação de Padre Delfino em Timon. Os objetivos específicos foram: identificar as relações sociais e políticas de Padre Delfino com o governo estadual; apontar os seus adversários no município; identificar as estratégias utilizada s para travar o embate político . A presente narrativa historiográfica não se pretendeu uma biografia, mas, através do suporte metodológico da micro-história (PRIORE, 2009) utilizou a figura de Padre Delfino para compreender o cenário político, econômico e social da cidade de Timon no período de 1940 a 1960. A pesquisa se apoiou nas fontes hemerográficas e literárias, relatórios governamentais do estado do Maranhão e fontes retiradas de trabalhos aca dêmicos. As fontes hemerográficas, em sua maioria, estão na Biblioteca Benedito Leite, em forma física e digitalizada, localizada em São Luís (MA) e nos arquivos públicos, também, localizados na capital maranhense. Porém, ainda foram utilizados jornais fís icos da casa Anísio Brito, localizada em Teresina e outras. A obra literária utilizada na pesquisa foi a de H. Dobal “Roteiro sentimental e pitoresco de Teresina (1992)”. Os documentos governamentais que serviram de fontes foram: Relatório de serviço de saneamento e Prophylaxia Rural do Maranhão e Enciclopédia dos Municípios Brasileiros (1959). As obras acadêmicas que serviram de suporte empírico para esse trabalho foram: Padre Delfino e Timon: Vida, missão e história (2016), de José Élcio Coelho, Timon, uma flor de cajazeira: do povoamento à vila (2007), de Raimundo Nonato Lima dos Santos, Vila Flores (1990”, de Venâncio Lula, Timon, sua História e sua gente (2005), autoria de Raimunda de Carvalho Sousa. A pesquisa demonstrou que as ações religiosas de Padre Delfino se confundem com suas atividades políticas e o ajudaram a projetar-se como importante líder político local no período entre 1940 a 1960. Grande parte dos elementos de desenvolvimento da cidade é frut o de suas ações políticas.

ABSTRACT The present research had as object of study the political and social panorama that allowed the political action of Padre Delfino in the City of Timon (MA) in the decades of 1940 to 1960. The municipality of Timon, located in Maranhão, is neighboring the capital of Piauí, Teresina, and has the living memory of an illustrious Catholic priest active in the city, known as Padre Delfino. The city's historiographic literature always mentions the parish priest's accomplishments and even a biographical dissertation deepens many of his facets. However, he does not explore in depth his political activity intertwined with his activity as a parish priest. For this reason, the present research formulated the following question as a research problem: what political and social scenario allowed the political action of Padre Delfino in the City of Timon in the decades from 1940 to 1960? The objective of the research was to understand the social and political relations that allowed Padre Delfino to work in Timon from the 1940s to the 1960s. The specific objectives were: to identify the social and political relations of Padre Delfino with the state government; point out your opponents in the municipality; identify the strategies used to stop the political struggle; and to understand which memory was established of Padre Delfino in the municipality of Timon. The time frame of this study covers the decades from 1940 to 1960, a period that evidenced the political activity of Padre Delfino in Timon. However, the present study will need to expose the 1930s to better explain the period of reorganization of national politics promoted by the 1930s revolution in Brazil, in the state of Maranhão and in the municipality of Timon. The present historiographical narrative was not intended to be a biography, but, through the methodological support of micro-history (PRIORE, 2009) used the figure of Padre Delfino to understand the political, economic and social scenario of the city of Timon in the period from 1940 to 1960 The present investigation built its research data through hemerographic and literary sources, government reports from the state of Maranhão and sources taken from academic works. The hemerographic sources used are physical, digitized newspapers and were consulted, for the most part, at the Benedito Leite Library, located in São Luís (MA) and in public archives, also located in the capital of Maranhão. However, physical newspapers from the Anísio Brito house, located in Teresina, and other digitized sources were still used. The newspapers consulted as sources were: Correio de Timon, O Combate, O Maranhão, O Imparcial, Gazeta de Flores, Diário de São Luís, Diário Caxiense, Correspondente, O Cruzeiro and O Piauí. The literary work used in the research was H. Dobal's “Sentimental and picturesque itinerary of Teresina (1992)”. The government documents that served as sources were: Report on the sanitation service and Rural Prophylaxis of Maranhão and Encyclopedia of Brazilian Municipalities (1959). The academic works that served as empirical support for this work were: Padre Delfino and Timon: Life, mission and history (2016), by José Élcio Coelho, Timon, a cajazeira flower: from the settlement to the village (2007), by Raimundo Nonato Lima dos Santos, Vila Flores (1990", by Venâncio Lula, Timon, his History and his People (2005), authored by Raimunda de Carvalho Sousa. The research demonstrated that the religious actions of Padre Delfino are confused with his political activities and the helped to project himself as an important local political leader in the period between 1940 and 1960. A large part of the city's development elements are the result of his political actions, which helped to consolidate a lasting memory about the Pr iest in Timon.
