ABSTRACT: The lima-bean, Phaseolus lunatus L., is a culture of great importance for the northeastern region of Brazil, mainly as a source of food and income for the populations. The culture faces some problems during storage, caused by insects that attack stored grain. The weevil Zabrotes subfasciatus (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae: Bruchinae) is considered the main prague during storage of bean-fava beans, make good any damage caused by insects decrease quality, germination, impairs the appearance, palatability and acceptability by consumers. The forms of control of this species are the purges and treatment with residual insecticides, which are not always effective to control or to prevent reinfestation, and may result in problems of insect resistance and poisoning in animals and humans. One of the ways to control that does not cause damage to man and the environment is the alternative control using insecticides plants. The objective of this work was to determine the lethal powder concentration fruit of Piper tuberculatum and assess the effects of the use of the vegetable powder on Zabrotes subfasciatus in beans-fava beans stored. Was determined to median lethal concentration (LC50) and in mortality were evaluated, oviposition and emergence percentage, premature death and average period of development under test without choice, and oviposition repellency and emergency, under test with choice. Initially, preliminary tests were conducted to determine the LC50 test without choice. Later, assessed the effect of different dosages on the insect and the effect of P. tuberculatum in formulations (applied neat and in sachets). The median lethal concentration (LC50) for p. tuberculatum was 0.018 g powder/10 g of beans, the plant presented charge of neutral repellency for Z. subfasciatus in powder application forms. The dust of the fruits of P. tuberculatum cause toxic effects on the Z. subfasciatus causing decrease in oviposition, emergence and increased mortality, the tests free choice and no choice. |
