Abstract:
e personagens, ceticismo e dogmatismo, presença e ausência, e a partir do possível efeito
ABSTRACT: This study has as its research object the use of cinema, specifically the film genre, in
Philosophy classes in High School. Its main objective is to produce, from five selected films,
a manual of didactic units that contemplates five thematic axes of philosophy, intervening as a
contribution in the school space and as a critical and cultural collection of the discipline.
Philosophy teaching can take place in a dialogical and expository way, without, however,
disregarding the possibilities of learning when cinema is combined with the use of textbooks
base don’t he history of philosophy or the thematic framework. The evaluation on the theme
of teaching philosophy found in the referenced authors and in many other texts that explore
this theme from different perspectives shows us that it is still very usual to present the
disciplinary contents per philosophy teachers in an expositive, static and abstract way. In the
Rortyan Project of a liberal utopia, genres such as romance, film and television, take the place
of more traditional vocabularies because they prove to be more effective in provoking the
development of the imaginative capacity, more powerful, than the investigative capacity.
This substitution still does not occur more rapidly because, on the one hand, “the great part of
non-intellectuals continue to be linked to some form of religious faith or to some form of
enligh tenment rationalism” (RORTY, 1992, p. 18) and, on the other hand the number of
liberal ironists who do not believe in the existence of such an order is minimal and
insufficient. For Rorty (1992), cinema, like other narrative forms, is a more effective tool to
deal with the fact that it is impossible to find a metavocabulary capable of handling all
possible ways of judging and feeling, and which would render the various vocabularies used
by us unnecessar. The recognition of this contingency of language, due to the impossibility of
this metavocabulary, justifies the inconsequence of apprehending in a monoperspectivist way,
in a single vocabulary, a world that presents itself to us in a pluriperspectivist way, through
several vocabularies. For Cabrera (2006), from the emergence of cinema and the notion of
logopathy, it is possible to classify philosophers as “apathetic” or “pathetic” thinkers, the
latter being cinematographic philosophers. Goodenough (2005) states that the film is made for
philosophy, as it changes or sheds different light on any philosophy that has been speculated
about appearance and reality, actors and characters, skepticism and dogmatism, presence and
absence, and considering the possible frozen effect, it can still be characterized as philosophy
itself. Thus, this study proposes the use of films as a didactic-methodological resource for
teaching philosophy so that is less discursive-theoretical and more narrative. We understand
that from the diversity of themes, genres and perspectives approached by cinema, as an
alternative to the expository and conceptual form that currently prevails in the school
scenario, we can bring high school students closer to philosophy, making it closer, more
meaningful and attributing you sense. Initially, the dissertation presents a brief history of the
presence and influence of philosophy in Brazil, of pragmatism, of the Escola Nova Movement
and of the Rorty's neopragmatism, of cinematographic art and language and later on the
didactic units manual.
