GEOGRAFIA HISTÓRICA DO PIAUÍ COLONIAL: os processos de colonização e formação territorial, até à constituição das primeiras vilas no século XVIII

Abstract

RESUMO: Esta dissertação teve como objetivo geral analisar as formas de colonização do Piauí. As pesquisas planeadas e efetuadas permitiram concluir um resumo geográfico histórico, daquele período. Partindo do objetivo geral, a dissertação assenta em três objetivos específicos. Compreender as linhas do início da colonização e o que terá levado à formação territorial do Piauí. Identificar os processos que dinamizaram a apropriação da natureza, pelos colonos e verificar quais as influências portuguesas na construção e divisão política, tendo por base a constituição das primeiras vilas. Estas vilas foram mandadas constituir por meio de carta régia, a qual trazia consigo recomendações e ordens precisas sobre os modelos que deveriam ser implantados, o que foi possível verificar no campo. Por outro lado, a constituição das vilas fez parte de um plano abrangente a toda a colônia Brasil, e que visou objetivamente uma formação territorial da colônia, organizada por forma a possibilitar um maior controlo por parte da coroa. A pesquisa foi dividida em duas partes distintas. Uma primeira que compreendeu um estudo bibliográfico e uma segunda onde foi efetuado o estudo de campo. O estudo bibliográfico foi também dividido em duas partes, uma primeira onde foram estudados os conceitos que ajudaram à fundamentação teórica e uma segunda parte onde foram estudados as formas e os processos de colonização e da formação territorial, consolidada com a constituição das primeiras vilas, que caracterizam ao mesmo tempo a primeira divisão político-administrativa do Piauí colonial. Entretanto os trabalhos de campo, em cada uma das antigas vilas constituídas no século XVIII (hoje cidades), visaram verificar os locais escolhidos para implantação de cada vila, os traçados das praças, a partir das quais as vilas se expandiram, e conhecer também um pouco da história de cada uma, quer através dos vestígios encontrados, quer através das entrevistas informais com os guias que ajudaram aos trabalhos de campo. O conjunto da pesquisa, possibilitou resultados muito satisfatórios, com os quais foi possível traçar a geografia histórica da colonização do Piauí. Neste traçado histórico figuram a forma e os motivos da ocupação deste território e como se formou, como se definiu o território em si, com o desenho curioso que lhe conhecemos, todo ele traçado em função dos fenômenos naturais que o delimitam. A colonização parece ter decorrido normalmente, de forma condizente com o resto da colônia Brasil e, por sua vez, a formação territorial se iniciou sob o estímulo das necessidades dos colonos, relativas à sua principal atividade econômica, a pecuária. A população foi preponderante nos atos de colonização, que implicaram, o estabelecimento dos colonos, a instalação das fazendas e o povoamento, que por sua vez se consolidou com a implantação das vilas no século XVIII. ABSTRACT: This essay has as general objective to analyze the forms of colonization of Piaui. The research planned and carried out revealed a geographical, historical summary of that period. Starting from the general objective, the dissertation is based on three specific objectives. Understand the lines from the beginning of colonization and which have led to the territorial formation of Piaui. Identify the dynamic processes of the appropriation of nature, by settlers and verify which the Portuguese influences in the construction and political division, based on the constitution of the first villages. These villages were sent form by royal charter, which brought recommendations and precise orders on the models that should be deployed, which it was possible to verify in the field. On the other hand, the constitution of the villages was part of a comprehensive plan to the whole colony Brazil, which aimed to objectively a territorial formation of cologne organised in such a way as to enable a greater control on the part of the crown. The research was divided into two distinct parts. A first who understood a bibliographical study and a second where it started the field study. The bibliographical study was also divided into two parts, a first where they were studied the concepts that have helped the theoretical foundation and a second part where they were studied the forms and processes of colonization and territorial formation, consolidated with the establishment of the first villages that are at the same time the first political-administrative division of Piauí colonial. However, the field work, in each one of the ancient villages formed in the 18th century (today cities), aimed at checking the places chosen for deployment of each village, the traces of the plazas, from which the villages have expanded, and also know a bit about the history of each one, either through the traces found, either through informal interviews with the guides who helped to field work. The whole of the research, made very satisfactory results, with whom it was possible to trace the historical geography of colonization of Piaui. This historic trace out the shape and the reasons for the occupation of territory and as if formed, as if defined the territory itself, with the drawing curious that you know, all he traced in function of natural phenomena that delimit. The colonization appears to have proceeded normally, so consistent with the rest of the colony Brazil and, in turn, the territorial training was started under the stimulus of the needs of the settlers, relating to its main economic activity, the livestock. The population was predominant in the acts of colonization, which resulted in the establishment of settlers, the installation of farms and settlements, which in turn was consolidated with the deployment of the villages in the 18th century.
