ABSTRACT: The Lima bean (Phaseolus lunatus) is a legume of great importance for the states of Northeast Brazil due to the economic and nutritional potential for family farmers. To improve these two factors, the use of sustainable and low-cost methods that increase production are highly requested alternatives. With that in mind, the symbiosis of fava beans with nitrogen-fixing bacteria can be a great alternative. Thus, the present study aimed to evaluate the influence of rhizobia isolates in different genotypes and environments of cultivation of this legume. For this, 5 rhizobia isolates (UFPI-18, UFPI-32, UFPI-38, UFPI-50 and UFPI- 59) were used, selected and compared to a reference strain (CIAT 899) and two controls (with N and without N) and inoculated in pots containing large (UFPI-480 access) and small (UFPI-1120 access) seeds of fava beans grown in Teresina soils. Thus, it was observed that large seeds provided greater nodulation, plant growth and greater efficiency in fixing nitrogen when compared to small seeds, with the UFPI-59 isolate responsible for the highest dry weight values of the aerial part, nodules and the root, while the UFPI-32 isolate promoted the largest number of nodules. Regarding the N accumulation, the UFPI-38 and UFPI-59 isolates obtained the best results, with UFPI-38 showing the highest efficiency when inoculated in both seeds, while UFPI-59 showed efficacy when inoculated only in the seeds. small seeds. Thus, the study showed that the size of the seeds influenced the growth, nodulation and biological fixation of fava beans. Therefore, UFPI-32, UFPI-38 and UFPI-59 rhizobia isolates were selected to assess field behavior under different environmental conditions in the states of Piauí and Ceará. The parameters of nodulation, N accumulation and production varied between treatments and locations, where a greater nodule biomass was observed in plants inoculated with the isolates UFPI-32 and UFPI-59 (Piauí) and CIAT899 and UFPI-32 (Ceará). Regarding the size of the nodules, the UFPI-59 isolate showed the best results in both locations, while the largest nitrogen accumulations were found in the leaves of plants inoculated with the rhizobia UFPI-59 and CIAT 899. As for productivity, the UFPI isolate -59 provided higher grain yield compared to CIAT 899 and controls. Therefore, it can be concluded that the UFPI-59 isolate had great potential in promoting nodulation, N accumulation, plant growth and production of fava beans in both environments, which can be indicated as a possible inoculant for this culture. |
