PROMESSAS E MILAGRES NA DANÇA DE SÃO GONÇALO: Etnografia de uma devoção

Abstract

RESUMO: A Dança de São Gonçalo, muito frequente na zona rural do município de Campo Maior-PI, apresenta-se como um ritual de pagamento de promessas realizado na forma de dança e cantoria. O trabalho propõe descrever o ritual, assim como analisar como se dá a relação entre os devotos, o santo e a comunidade, estabelecida a partir do contrato da promessa, pelo qual tanto o santo quanto o devoto, ficam encarregados de cumprir obrigações específicas. A orientação teórica fundamenta-se nos conceitos de Mauss (2003), Durkheim (1996), Turner (2005) e (2013), Geertz (2015) e Brandão (1986); a coleta dos dados engloba a observação participante dos rituais, entrevistas com os devotos, captura e uso de fotografias e a análise de conteúdo dos versos das cantigas do ritual. ABSTRACT: The São Gonçalo Dance, very frequent in the rural area of the municipality of Campo Maior-PI, presents itself as a ritual of payment of promises realized in the form of dance and singing. The purpose of this work is to describe the ritual, as well as to analyze how the relationship between the devotees, the saint and the community established by the contract of the promise by which both the saint and the devotee are entrusted with fulfilling specific obligations. The theoretical orientation is based on the concepts of Mauss (2003), Durkheim (1996), Turner (2005) and (2013), Geertz (2015) and Brandão (1986); the collection of data includes participant observation of rituals, interviews with devotees, capture and use of photographs, and content analysis of the verses of the ritual songs.
