ABSTRACT: Chemical herbicide management is the most widely used method for weed control in commercial agricultural. However, they can impact the soil microbiome. Thus the reseach objectives were evaluated the response of microbial biomass, enzyme activity and soil bacterial community to the application of the herbicides imazethapyr and flumioxazin. In the laboratory, soil samples were incubated with the application of imazethapyr and flumioxazin alone or in combination and analyzed at 0, 15, 30 and 60 days after application (DAA). Herbicide effects were evaluated for the Soil microbial biomass C (MBC), Microbial biomass N (MBN), basal respiration (RB), respiratory quotient (qCo2), total organic carbon (COT), microbial quotient (qMic), relation CBM:NBM, dehydrogenase activity (DHA); hydrolysis of fluorescein diacetate (FDA). As well as the bacterial community present in the soil, using next-generation sequencing. The results demonstrated that the MBC decreased, while MBN was not affected after the application of the herbicides as compared to the control. Soil respiration, qCo2, and DHA activity increased significantly after the application of the herbicides compared to the control. The FDA was not significantly different between the control and the herbicide treatments. The main response curve showed the largest initial effects for the flumioxazin, followed by imazethapyr and their mixture. Flumioxazin had a different influence on soil respiration and respiratory quotient than imazethapyr and their mixture. The abundance of specific microbial phyla changed as a response to the herbicide application with a significant decrease of Acidobacteria, Verrucomicrobia, Elusimicrobia, and Planctomycetes, and an increase of Gemmatimonadetes, Bacteroidetes, Firmicutes, and Proteobacteria. The principal component analysis clustered the samples according to the time of incubation and the microbial diversity increased on the 15th day with a trend to decrease at 30 and 60 days. The evaluation of potential functions showed core functions represented by chemoheterotrophy (35.1%), followed by aerobic chemoheterotrophy (32.8%), nitrification (6.2%), ammonia oxidation (6.2%), and aromatic compound degradation (4.4%). Our data showed an increase of microbial groups that have the potential to metabolize chemical compounds, such as the genera Bryobacter, Gaiella, and Flavobacterium which increased significantly in abundance and can be explored for future biotechnological use. The The results demonstrate that the effects of herbicides on soil microbial biomass and enzymes are short-term as we observed recovery in the biological parameters over time. The application of the herbicides in soil affects the microbial profile with the potential to affect functions mediated by microbial communities, and this effect is related to groups with the potential to degrade the compound.

ABSTRACT: Water deficit is one of the environmental components that most limits sugarcane production, especially in non-irrigated areas where water restriction occurs during periods of full growth and crop development. The accumulation of osmoregulators in response to this limitation becomes an important mechanism to maintain cell turgor, mitigating the reduction in water potential. This study aimed to evaluate sugarcane clones under rainfed cultivation in the main sugarcane cultivation pole in the Brazilian state of Piauí, based on biometric, biochemical, physiological, technological and productivity parameters. Divided into chapters, the study addressed the theoretical framework in Chapter I, and in Chapter II it investigated the photosynthetic efficiency and osmolytic regulation in the tolerance of six sugarcane clones (RB975375, RB006629, RB955977, RB011549, RB064109 and RB064125) and two commercial varieties (RB867515 and RB92579) grown in semi-arid conditions. Clones RB975375, RB006629, RB064109, and RB064125, under cultivation with water limitation, exhibited better growth and response to gas and osmotic exchanges. Clones RB975375 and RB064109 showed high efficiency in the use of water, reflecting better stalk and sugar yields compared to varieties RB867515 and RB92579. Chapter III evaluated osmoprotectors and technological performance in sugarcane clones grown in water-limited environments, which aimed to evaluate the temporal variation of carbohydrate concentrations and the productivity of sugarcane clones grown in rainfed environments.

ABSTRACT: The Lima bean (Phaseolus lunatus) is a legume of great importance for the states of Northeast Brazil due to the economic and nutritional potential for family farmers. To improve these two factors, the use of sustainable and low-cost methods that increase production are highly requested alternatives. With that in mind, the symbiosis of fava beans with nitrogen-fixing bacteria can be a great alternative. Thus, the present study aimed to evaluate the influence of rhizobia isolates in different genotypes and environments of cultivation of this legume. For this, 5 rhizobia isolates (UFPI-18, UFPI-32, UFPI-38, UFPI-50 and UFPI- 59) were used, selected and compared to a reference strain (CIAT 899) and two controls (with N and without N) and inoculated in pots containing large (UFPI-480 access) and small (UFPI-1120 access) seeds of fava beans grown in Teresina soils. Thus, it was observed that large seeds provided greater nodulation, plant growth and greater efficiency in fixing nitrogen when compared to small seeds, with the UFPI-59 isolate responsible for the highest dry weight values of the aerial part, nodules and the root, while the UFPI-32 isolate promoted the largest number of nodules. Regarding the N accumulation, the UFPI-38 and UFPI-59 isolates obtained the best results, with UFPI-38 showing the highest efficiency when inoculated in both seeds, while UFPI-59 showed efficacy when inoculated only in the seeds. small seeds. Thus, the study showed that the size of the seeds influenced the growth, nodulation and biological fixation of fava beans. Therefore, UFPI-32, UFPI-38 and UFPI-59 rhizobia isolates were selected to assess field behavior under different environmental conditions in the states of Piauí and Ceará. The parameters of nodulation, N accumulation and production varied between treatments and locations, where a greater nodule biomass was observed in plants inoculated with the isolates UFPI-32 and UFPI-59 (Piauí) and CIAT899 and UFPI-32 (Ceará). Regarding the size of the nodules, the UFPI-59 isolate showed the best results in both locations, while the largest nitrogen accumulations were found in the leaves of plants inoculated with the rhizobia UFPI-59 and CIAT 899. As for productivity, the UFPI isolate -59 provided higher grain yield compared to CIAT 899 and controls. Therefore, it can be concluded that the UFPI-59 isolate had great potential in promoting nodulation, N accumulation, plant growth and production of fava beans in both environments, which can be indicated as a possible inoculant for this culture.

ABSTRACT: Phytophagous mites occur in several species of host plants. Although, in eucalyptus some species are reported, there is no knowledge about the biological and reproductive parameters of mites in eucalyptus species. Thus, the objective was to evaluate the biological, reproductive and thermal requirements, as well as to carry out the survey and dispersion of the mite Oligonychus punicae Hirst, 1962 (Acari: Tetranychidae) associated with eucalyptus in a clonal mini-garden. The first record of O. punicae associated with Eucalyptus urophylla plants was made in a clonal mini garden. The instantaneous growth rate of O. punicae was positive in the species Eucalyptus grandis, Eucalyptus brassiana, Eucalyptus tereticornis, Eucalyptus pellita, Corymbia citriodora and E. urophylla, but in the choice test, preference was given to the feeding of E. urophylla. The population peak of O. punicae was recorded in March and April. Were collected 1744 specimen of O. punicae. The mite O. punicae caused injuries of 20%, on average, on the adaxial surface of the leaves of E. urophylla. Olygonychus punicae has an aggregate population distribution. All O. punicae eggs originated females and completed their cycle in all hosts. Significant differences were found when observing the development and duration of longevity, pre-oviposition, oviposition and post-oviposition, in addition to the fertility of O. punicae females when evaluated in the different species of eucalyptus. In all hosts, the survival rate decreased with increasing age of the females. Eucalyptus tereticornis stood out as an excellent host for the development of O. punicae. The development of O. punicae revealed an inverse relationship between the duration of development and temperatures. The periods of pre-oviposition, oviposition and fecundity of adult females of O. punicae were affected by temperature and tend to decrease with increasing temperature. The net reproduction rate decreased significantly from 21°C to 33°C, the increase in temperature resulted in a significantly shorter average generation time for O. punicae. The intrinsic rate of increase ranged from 0.15 to 0.20. The finite rates of increase rates were all greater than 1.00. The survival analysis for the immature and adult stages of O. punicae females showed faster mortality with increasing temperature. Specific fertility fluctuated over the oviposition period, decreasing with increasing temperature. The lower thermal limit for egg to adult development was 10.34ºC. The thermal constant was 163.93 degrees-day for females of O. punicae to complete their development from egg to adult. The optimum temperature for O. punicae is between 25 and 29ºC.
