O ESCRAVO E O SENHOR NOS ÚLTIMOS ANOS DE ESCRAVIDÃO NO PIAUÍ

Abstract

RESUMO: O presente texto tem como objetivo principal analisar os fatores que contribuíram para o processo de diminuição da população escrava no Piauí. Dentre esses fatores, o tráfico interprovincial, as ações das sociedades emancipadoras, a concessão das cartas de alforria feita por livre vontade do senhor e a conquista da carta de alforria pelo próprio escravo indicam-se a dinâmica e as causas que favoreceram o processo de diminuição e libertação de trabalhadores escravizados. O recorte espacial da pesquisa é a província do Piauí, hoje Estado do Piauí, onde ainda persiste carência de produções e pesquisas acerca do processo de diminuição e da libertação dos escravos. Já o recorte cronológico contempla o período entre 1872 e 1887, justificado pelo fato de ter sido na segunda metade do século XIX a intensificação no combate à escravidão no Brasil. Para além disso, foi durante esse espaço de tempo que ocorreu uma diminuição abrupta do número de escravos na província piauiense. Ao selecionar o objetivo proposto, algumas questões ainda se tornaram pertinentes e, por isso, norteadoras da pesquisa: perceber de que forma os escravos contribuíram para seu processo de libertação. Além disso, verificar como as pessoas livres contribuíram para o processo de diminuição e libertação dos escravos, no Piauí. Acrescenta-se que se tem nos ensinamentos de E. P. Thompson a forma teórico-metodológica. ABSTRACT: The purpose of this text is to analyze the factors that contributed to the process of decreasing the slave population in Piauí. Among these factors are the interprovincial traffic, the actions of the emancipating societies, the granting of the liberty card made by the free will of the lord, and the conquest of the liberty card by the slave himself. Thus, the dynamics and causes that favored the process of reduction and liberation of enslaved workers are indicated. The spatial aspect of the research is the province of Piauí, where there is still a lack of production and research on the process of decline and the liberation of slaves. The chronological cut of the research contemplates the period between the years of 1872 - 1887, justified by the fact that it was in the second half of the 19th century the intensification of the fight against slavery in Brazil. In addition, it was during this time that there was an abrupt decrease in the number of slaves in the province of Piauí. In selecting the proposed objective, some questions still became pertinent and, therefore, guiding the research: to perceive how the slaves contributed to their liberation process. In addition, to verify how the free people contributed to the process of reduction and liberation of the slaves, in Piauí. It is added that in the teachings of E. P. Thompson the theoretical-methodological form.
