A ÚLTIMA PÁGINA DO GÊNESE: a Amazônia de Werner Herzog (1972-1982)

Abstract

RESUMO: Este trabalho tem como objeto de estudo os filmes Aguirre, A Cólera dos Deuses (1972) e Fitzcarraldo (1982), dirigidos pelo cineasta alemão Werner Herzog (1942), filmados na Amazônia entre os anos 1970 e 1980. Os longas-metragens são resultado da experiência de filmagem feita pelo diretor na região, tendo como contexto histórico a dominação colonial e a modernização durante a economia da borracha no início do século passado. Essas obras expressam diferentes narrativas sobre a História do Brasil, entre elas, o embate entre o “homem moderno” e a natureza “selvagem”, além das transformações/contradições geradas pela colonização e pela modernidade, em meados do século XVI e no limiar do século XX, respectivamente. Buscaremos analisar o susto (o deslumbramento, a estupefação, o encanto, o desencanto e o desarranjo) desses processos, vistos a partir do olhar de Herzog. ABSTRACT: This research has as its subject-matter the films Aguirre, The Wrath of the Gods (1972) and Fitzcarraldo (1982), directed by the german filmmaker Werner Herzog (1942), filmed in the Amazon between the years 1970 and 1980. The films are a result of the filming experience made by the director in the region, having as its historical background the colonial domination and modernization during the rubber economy at the beginning of the last century. These films express some reflections on the Brazil’s history, among them, the clash between "modern man" and "wild nature", besides the transformations/contradictions generated by colonization and modernity in the middle of the sixteenth century and on the threshold of century, respectively. We will try to analyze the scare (the dazzle, the amazement, the charm, the disenchantment, the derangement) of these processes, seen from the Herzog’s sense.
